Maja is built by Maja App Oy in Helsinki, Finland. We started from a simple mismatch in the rental market: reliable renters have no way to prove they are reliable, and rental owners have no reliable way to check. Payslips can be months out of date, references are written by people with an interest in the outcome, and a credit report only shows failures — never the years of rent you paid on time.
Maja reads the rent payments in a renter's own bank account with read-only PSD2 open banking access and turns them into a verified payment history that the renter controls and shares. Rental owners get an evidence-based reliability label instead of a stack of documents to interpret. Nobody has to trust a screenshot, and no credit check is involved.
Bank access is read-only and revocable, sensitive fields are encrypted with AES-256, and profile links expire automatically after 30 days. Maja shows a rental owner a summary — label, verified months, on-time record and an approximate rent range — rather than a raw bank statement, because a leasing decision does not require someone's full spending history.
For Finnish rental owners, Maja also automates rental income reporting to the Finnish Tax Administration (OmaVero), including retroactive months, for 4.50 € per month per property. The same verified bank data that proves a renter pays on time can also produce a correct tax report without manual bookkeeping.
