Most bank connections work on the first attempt. When one does not, it is almost always one of the situations below.
PSD2 requires a bank consent to be re-authorised roughly every 90 days. When yours is close to expiry Maja emails a reminder and shows a banner on your dashboard. Choose Renew connection and complete your bank's login again — your existing verified history is kept, and only new transactions resume flowing.
If the bank flow was interrupted — you closed the tab, the session timed out, or the app switched back too early — no consent was created. Start the connection again and complete every step, including the final confirmation screen that returns you to Maja.
Bank logins often fail inside the built-in browsers of Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or TikTok because they block the redirects and popups strong authentication needs. Maja shows a warning when it detects this. Open the page in Safari or Chrome and try again.
Banks expose different amounts of history over PSD2 — often 12 to 24 months, sometimes less. Also check that you connected the account rent is actually paid from: a joint account, a second account or a savings account will not contain the payments. If rent is split with a flatmate, connect the account your share leaves from.
Maja ignores transfers between your own accounts, card purchases and typical non-rent keywords, so a payment described only as an IBAN or as a transfer may need to be confirmed manually. You can select the correct recurring payment yourself, and Maja then uses it for detection going forward.
Some credit-card-only, business or e-money accounts are not available through PSD2 account access. Use a regular current account instead. If nothing works, email hello@maja-app.com with your bank's name and we will investigate the specific connection.
